Parboiled Rice Processing: Step-by-Step

1) Cleaning

Before milling, paddy must undergo thorough dust and impurity removal to ensure clean processing. A screen removes straw, hulls, sand, and dust, while a destoner eliminates stones and hard impurities.


2) Soaking

The paddy is soaked to absorb enough water, ensuring proper starch pasting during steaming. Paddy must absorb over 30% water to enable full gelatinization in the next step.


3) Steaming

Steaming gelatinizes the starch, improving rice texture, preserving nutrients, and making the rice easier to store and process.


4) Drying & Cooling

Moisture is reduced from 35% to approximately 14%, enhancing storage and transportability while improving rice processing efficiency.


5) Husking

Husking becomes easier after soaking and steaming. Rubber rollers remove husks, and separators ensure efficient grain separation.


6) Milling & Whitening

The brown rice is polished through a whitening process, making it more durable for storage.


7) Polishing & Grading
